Hawaii retailer’s storage expansion nearly complete

July 1, 2013 By

Hawaii Gas is nearing completion of a large-scale propane storage expansion in Hawaii, reports West Hawaii Today. By October, Hawaii Gas expects to have increased its statewide propane storage capacity by 540,000 gallons.

The report indicates Hawaii Gas has been expanding its propane storage since last year as part of an ongoing commitment to provide reliable supply. Hawaii Gas completed a 180,000-gallon expansion in June 2012 on Maui and a 60,000-gallon expansion on Kauai this past April. A 270,000-gallon expansion on Oahu is expected to be complete by October 2013, as is a 30,000-gallon expansion on Hawaii.

In addition to this storage, Hawaii Gas has two propane barges with storage capacities exceeding 420,000 gallons to transport propane between islands as needed.
