Lightweighting solutions for vehicles ensure safety, performance

Worthington Industries says it is developing lightweighting solutions for vehicles without sacrificing safety and performance. Just as fleet operators interested in alternative fuels would consider their options for engine conversions, refueling infrastructure and other factors, they should also inquire about their choices for vehicle cylinders, according to Worthington. The tank and cylinder manufacturer says it X-rays each propane autogas cylinder to ensure there are no inclusions, voids or imperfections. As a result, the company says it is able to use a thinner-gauge steel that can reduce cylinder weight and, thus, fuel system weight, which can then be used by fleet operators for payload or other purposes.
