PERC awards grain drying company with grant

August 28, 2015 By

The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) awarded grain dryer manufacturer Mathews Co. a grant to revamp its Legacy Series grain dryer.

PERC approved a $100,000 grant at its July meeting in Park City, Utah, to revamp the Mathews Co.’s 75 and 80 Series grain dryers so they incorporate new technology. The Mathews Co. is based in Crystal Lake, Ill.

Joseph Shulfer, president of the Mathews Co., says the grant will allow his company to take concepts from its 75 and 80 Series grain dryers to develop a new style dryer. He says Legacy Series dryers, which have been around for 30 years, are in need of a revamp.

Shulfer says the revamped grain dryer will include operational efficiencies associated with tower-style dryers. Mathews Co. plans to bring its new dryer into prototype testing in 2016.
