Teaming with racetracks to provide customers with convenience

March 2, 2017 By

Racing fans in New York might have an easier time getting their propane cylinders refilled or exchanged, as Suburban Propane teamed with Watkins Glen International to allow fans to have their cylinders filled on-site during events.

Watkins Glen International is a racetrack in Watkins Glen, New York, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. The facility hosts a number of road racing events, such as the World Sportscar Championship, Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and the IndyCar Series.

“We’re collaborating with Watkins Glen International because we believe our work together can offer a unique convenience to local racing fans,” says Jasen Gray, manager at Suburban Propane’s Horseheads, New York, customer service center. “This was an easy decision for us, and we’re looking forward to a great year.”

Throughout 2017, Watkins Glen International will encourage fans to bring empty propane cylinders to its operations center, located in the facility’s infield near the main tunnel, to have them refilled or exchanged. The affiliation between the racetrack and the propane retailer is a good fit, according to Michael Printup, president at Watkins Glen International.

“Customer service is crucial to Suburban Propane,” Printup says. “Similarly, Watkins Glen International considers customer service to our fans among our most important initiatives. With these similar values, the relationship with Suburban Propane is a great one, and we look forward to working with them in the years to come.”

Suburban Propane has seen value in connecting with racing venues in New York for a few years, as the company committed to a two-year sponsorship with Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, New York, in April 2016, according to Outlaw Speedway. The site hosts weekly dirt track racing events from mid-April through early September.

“This is another great example of a great community partner in Suburban Propane, seeing the vision and drive of speedway owner Tyler Siri and the rest of the staff,” says Peter Meskill, Outlaw Speedway marketing and sales manager.

Suburban Propane has sponsored Outlaw Speedway on and off for a number of years, the speedway says. Suburban sponsors the track’s equipment and provides propane to its concession stands.
