Pros4Care golf outing boosts prostate cancer awareness funding to $120,000

Pros4Care, a partnership between the Prostate Cancer Foundation and a propane industry coalition, held its fifth annual golf outing on Oct. 29 at the Eldorado Country Club in McKinney, Texas.

The Texas Propane Gas Association helped to host the event, which has raised more than $120,000 for the foundation in the five years, Pros4Care co-founder Ed Varney says.

“We’re happy with that, but more importantly we’ve raised the awareness,” says Varney, also president of Eagle Sales Performance Associates. “I can’t tell you how many calls I get from people who say, ‘I went and got checked.’ It’s one of those causes that hits close to the heart.”

Event organizers have rallied support from past and present professional baseball players. Current Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Brad Lincoln and a group of Texas Rangers alumni attended the outing this year.

Next year’s event is already scheduled for Oct. 14 at Eldorado Country Club.
