October 3, 2016 By

Energy Distribution Partners (EDP) acquired CMP Energy, a propane retailer based in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania.

CMP Energy provides propane, home heating oil and HVAC service to about 8,000 residential customers across central Pennsylvania. Robert Mitchell founded the company in 1954 as Mitchell Oil Co. Robert’s son Jeff Mitchell took over the business in 1984, and Jeff’s son Bobby Mitchell continues to be involved in the company’s daily operations.

According to EDP, the company evolved into CMP Energy after a series of mergers and acquisitions.

“CMP has been dedicated to providing exceptional propane and heating oil service to customers in central Pennsylvania for over 60 years,” says Tom Knauff, CEO of EDP. “We recognize that the Mitchell family has developed a loyal following over that period of time, and we look forward to making certain that their company’s legacy will be preserved.”

EDP’s acquisition of CMP Energy marks the company’s fifth transaction in 2016. According to EDP, the company remains focused on growing its business in the propane industry. Its strategy is to acquire successful operations, retain the brand name, preserve the local management and delegate to those in the local community.
