NPGA Young Professionals Council launches new State Engagement Program

The National Propane Gas Association’s (NPGA) Young Professionals Council (YPC) has launched its State Engagement Program. This initiative allows state and regional propane associations to select a young professional from their membership to act as a one- to three-year liaison with NPGA and the YPC.
The purpose of the program is to increase association engagement by young industry members, retain the next generation of the workforce, add value to associations and demonstrate the value of YPC, according to the organization. Sponsored individuals will be key points of contact for information sharing to support the propane industry and educate others on its benefits and myriad uses. Oversight for the program and its participants will be provided by YPC’s State Engagement Committee (SEC).
Sponsorship costs around $1,000 and up annually to cover travel and registration to required educational events and meetings. (The deadline to commit to sponsorship is Dec. 31, 2025.)
Responsibilities for participants include:
- Attend one NPGA and YPC in-person meeting (fall or spring, or the Southeastern convention), as well as participate in training sessions and educational seminars.
- Join one committee with YPC and one with the sponsoring association, the latter determined by the association.
- Attend all committee meetings and be an active participant.
- Submit quarterly reports to the sponsoring association and the SEC.
- Present a YPC report at the association board meetings.
The SEC will provide quarterly performance feedback to the associations on recipient involvement.
The SEC will develop a formal application process for interested young professionals to apply for the State Engagement Program with the association to which they belong. Applicants must have approval from their company or direct superior to apply since there is a time commitment to participate.
Each sponsoring association will be presented with the applications and select desired applicants for virtual/in-person board interviews. The SEC will provide scoring guidelines and rubrics to ensure fair evaluation of applicants. Once an applicant has been selected, they will complete a customized agreement with their sponsoring association that entails their responsibilities to the association and YPC for the duration of the program.
About the YPC
YPC is a business council of the NPGA that provides a forum for the next generation of propane industry leadership (2025 and beyond) through professional development opportunities for employees 40 years of age and younger. Members of YPC have the chance to attend six virtual education sessions a year, leadership opportunities in YPC management and committees and networking with other young propane professionals from across the nation.
The YPC committees include:
- Marketing and promotion: Promote YPC in person and online and create marketing/promotional content for social media.
- Education and training: Research session speakers and explore different options for training opportunities. Develop educational content and secure program sponsors.
- Membership: Build the YPC community by pitching to industry companies the demonstrated value of membership. Recruit, engage and retain members.
- Day of service: Coordinate YPC’s annual day of service in partnership with Operation BBQ Relief, happening each October to celebrate National Propane Day.
These committees meet six to 12 times a year, depending on the events occurring within the council’s calendar.
