“Peyton says Americans are grateful to live in this country and share a sense of patriotism. He decided to join the Marines after undergraduate college because he was looking for a challenge. “I spent most of my time in an infantry battalion based in North Carolina and deployed to the Mediterranean Sea. The experience was amazing. The Marines are well known for their rigid discipline and military precision, but what amazed me the most is that Marines succeed first and foremost because of their commitment to each other. The key to their success is that no one cares who gets the credit. I have found that the same is true in most successful organizations.”

Industry Challenge

“One of our biggest challenges is attracting young people. The industry associations have some outstanding programs designed to promote the industry to young people and help marketers train them, such as The Knowledge Exchange (the NPGA Women in Propane Council’s mentoring program) and the Workforce Development Task Force. Bringing young people into the industry will not only ensure continuity of service to millions of households for the next generation, but also generate the excitement and enthusiasm we need to promote this versatile, clean energy source.”

On being President of Superior Plus Propane

Having taken the reins as president of Superior Plus Propane in 2016, Peyton’s focus is on growing the business. “We have roughly 1,000 employees who take pride in providing their friends and neighbors with the energy they need to heat their homes, fuel their farms and run their businesses. By better understanding the challenges they face, we can determine what’s working well and where we should focus our growth efforts.”

Bread and butter

Superior Plus is primarily a home heat company when it comes to propane, but it services a tremendous amount of commercial applications on the distillate side of the business. “We would like to draw upon that knowledge of the commercial marketplace to grow our non-residential propane gallons.”

Hobby

“I like to play golf, but I’m not very good.”
