The federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) typically receives $3 billion to $4 billion and serves 5 million households. About $3.37 billion in funding was approved for Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2022, compared to $3.36 billion for FFY 2021. In May 2021, the Biden administration added another $4.5 billion in supplemental funding for FFY 2021 via the American Rescue Plan, a $1.9 trillion coronavirus stimulus package. The additional LIHEAP funds have been available to households this heating season.
