Ferrellgas: Time right to return as NPGA member

June 16, 2022 By

Ferrellgas Partners LP, the nation’s second-largest propane retailer, is rejoining the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) after about five years with no affiliation to the industry’s Washington, D.C.-based trade group.

Ferrellgas had stepped away in 2017 but now says the time is right to lend its expertise to a group that represents about 2,400 companies in the U.S. propane industry. By joining NPGA, Ferrellgas also becomes members of the industry’s nearly 40 state and regional associations.

“The propane industry is facing legislative challenges that restrict energy choice,” says Ferrellgas COO Tamria Zertuche. “It is important that the entire industry work together to educate both the general public and elected and appointed officials about the benefits of clean, affordable and transportable propane.”

Zertuche says Ferrellgas also looks to become part of a more unified industry that can work together to overcome the labor shortage challenge, which requires new and innovative ways to attract more CDL drivers to the propane industry and transportation in general.

“Having the Ferrellgas team at the table, with their significant experience and depth of knowledge, will bolster NPGA’s representation of the propane industry,” says Steve Kaminski, president and CEO of NPGA.

Kaminski, who joined NPGA in the fall of 2019, says he’s worked to establish relationships with Ferrellgas Chairman, CEO and President Jim Ferrell and Zertuche over the past couple of years. Kaminski called Zertuche “the driving force behind this” renewed partnership. Kaminski announced the news about NPGA’s newest member at its board of directors meeting last week in Washington, D.C., with Ferrellgas in attendance.

“This is really about getting them back in the fold for their experience, their leadership and their business acumen,” Kaminski says. “It’s great to have their voices back, present in making decisions and helping set the priorities for the industry.”

Lisa Zuppas, senior director of strategic initiatives at Ferrellgas, is leading a team to coordinate the company’s participation with various NPGA committees, councils and boards, Zertuche says. Zuppas will serve on the NPGA board of directors and the membership committee and help facilitate involvement with state associations. Zuppas is also working closely with NPGA staff to facilitate a smooth convergence of the organizations.

“Ferrellgas is a critical part of the propane industry and their representation in NPGA makes NPGA stronger,” Kaminski says. “We look forward to working together.”
