Missouri PERC to participate in National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day

The Missouri Propane Education & Research Council (MOPERC) plans to participate in the National Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) Day Odyssey on April 19 outside Missouri’s Capitol building in Jefferson City, Missouri.

The St. Louis and Kansas City Clean Cities coalitions are co-hosting Missouri’s National AFV Day Odyssey in hopes of connecting with members of Missouri’s legislature about using alternative fuel vehicles. AmeriGas, Central States Bus Sales Inc., Energy Tree and MOPERC plan to partner with the event sponsors, according to the council. The companies involved in the event have invited school officials, fleet managers, legislators and eco-conscious drivers to attend the event.

“MOPERC has joined with Odyssey because we believe in the importance of [alternative fuel vehicles] and the role they play in sustaining our environment and national energy security,” says Steve Ahrens, president of MOPERC. “We are proud to join organizations across the United States in support of Odyssey and its message of ensuring a clean, secure energy future, both here in Missouri and across the country. Propane has an exciting story to tell, with new opportunities available in markets such as school buses.”

The event will feature a vehicle and equipment display, which will include a propane-powered police vehicle and a Blue Bird Vision propane bus. MOPERC will provide attendees with hot dogs, chips and refreshments from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and it plans to educate attendees on autogas, the Volkswagen mitigation settlement and propane mowers.

The National AFV Day Odyssey event, which launched in 2002, is a nationwide event that promotes alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicle options at a number of locations during Earth Day. Alliance AutoGas and the Propane Education & Research Council serve as 2017 National Odyssey sponsors, and the U.S. Department of Energy Clean Cities program, West Virginia University, Earth Day Texas and Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities coalition serve as national partners of the event.
