New York retailer educates firefighters about LP gas

November 17, 2015 By

Rich Muellerleile, president of Star Gas Products Inc., delivered a firefighter training session on LP gas to the Port Ewen Fire Department in Ulster County (N.Y.).

Muellerleile offered the training alongside Dave Walsh, chairman of the fire science program at Dutchess Community College.

According to Muellerleile, firefighters learned about LP gas’ properties, how the fuel is transported and how to best handle incidents involving propane. Demos were performed to show firefighters how LP gas burns and reacts under different conditions and circumstances.

Joshua Dauner, a Port Ewen firefighter and Dutchess Community College student, organized the class, Muellerleile says. Dauner is a recipient of a New York Propane Gas Association scholarship that is issued annually to a qualified fire science student who is pursuing an associate’s degree in fire science.
