NPGA takes stand against fireplace rule

June 7, 2011 By

NPGA urged the Department of Energy to repeal its final rule on energy conservation standards for direct heating equipment as they apply to decorative vented gas fireplaces. The rule specifies a new minimum efficiency requirement for these products. It imposes a maximum input rate of 9,000 Btus per hour, but NPGA says the rate is so low that it effectively bans decorative vented gas fireplaces. NPGA has been working with the Hearth, Patio, and Barbecue Association (HPBA) to oppose the rule.
