PSI, FCCC showcase 8.8-liter propane engine at Work Truck Show

Power Solutions International Inc. (PSI), which designs, engineers and manufactures emissions-certified, alternative fuel power systems, is teaming with Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. (FCCC) to showcase the new S2G work truck 8.8-liter propane engine during The Work Truck Show in Indianapolis. The engine is part of FCCC’s DriveForce non-diesel engine line.

Providing 270 horsepower at 2,600 rpm and 565 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,500 rpm, the EPA and CARB emission-certified engine provides power and performance, maximum fuel efficiency and fuel flexibility to FCCC’s medium-duty truck chassis, PSI says.

“PSI’s 8.8-liter propane engine is a clean-burning, purpose-built engine that offers the torque and power of a diesel engine at near-idle rpm levels,” PSI CEO John Miller says. “We’re very excited that our 8.8-liter engine is a part of FCCC’s medium-duty truck line and we look forward to working together.”

The 8.8-liter engine powers the 2020 model year of FCCC’s S2G work truck vehicle, which pairs FCCC’s S2 chassis with a factory-installed propane autogas engine. The S2G has a gross vehicle weight rating of 33,000 pounds and offers fleet owners lower operational costs and reduced emissions while providing high performance and payload capacity, PSI says. The chassis is designed for commercial market applications, including pickup and delivery, student transportation and municipal applications.
