Tank manufacturer: Vehicle lightweighting adds efficiencies for propane-fueled fleets

Worthington Industries says it is developing lightweighting solutions for vehicles without sacrificing safety and performance. Just as fleet operators interested in alternative fuels would consider their options for engine conversions, refueling infrastructure and other topics, they should also inquire about their choices for vehicle cylinders, Worthington notes. The tank and cylinder manufacturer says it X-rays each propane autogas cylinder to ensure there are no inclusions, voids or imperfections. As a result, the company says it is able to use a thinner-gauge steel that can reduce cylinder weight and, thus, fuel system weight, which can then be used by fleet operators for payload or other purposes.
