ThompsonGas makes its seventh acquisition of 2020

ThompsonGas, headquartered in Frederick, Maryland, acquired Pirkl Gas, a propane provider in Owatonna, Minnesota.

This acquisition strengthens ThompsonGas’ presence in Minnesota.

“Pirkl Gas is a great addition to our presence in Minnesota,” says Derek Ashmore, regional vice president of ThompsonGas. “It gives us another very strong footprint to continue our active growth strategy.”

Owner Greg Pirkl’s parents established Pirkl Gas in 1959. The family business was looking for a buyer that would carry its core values of safety, customer service and a good work environment for employees into the future.

“Pirkl Gas is excited to partner with ThompsonGas and help move our beloved propane company to the next level,” says Pirkl. “Our family had many discussions on what is the best fit for us and our next step in life and how to bring the next generation into the fold. We decided as a group that our best choice was to partner with a larger company that had the staff and the infrastructure to deal with all the challenges facing a business today.”

The acquisition is ThompsonGas’ seventh in 2020. The company most recently acquired California-based Associated Propane.
