Icom North America partners with Alabama Department of Corrections to convert vehicles to autogasThe Alabama Department of Corrections partnered with Icom North America to convert 72 of its prison work-release vans to run on bi-fuel using Icom’s liquid injection propane systems.

Andy Farquhar, director of Alabama Department of Corrections, says the department used Icom’s JTG II conversion kits on its Ford E-350 prison work-release vans.

“Given the department’s high use of the vans, the decision to switch to bi-fuel propane was an absolute no-brainer,” says Farquhar in a press release.

Icom adds that Precision Sales & Service, a company that performs alternative fuel conversions, helped to install the conversion kits. Buddy Gamel, owner of Precision Sales & Service, says the Icom systems fit the department’s needs well.

“Some of the 2014 E350 vans have achieved over 160,000 miles in less than 24 months,” Gamel says in a press release. “This project was the perfect fleet to prove the reliability and performance of Icom systems.”
