Metsa, One-Tank partner on underground tank, monitor integration
A propane tank manufacturer and tank monitoring technology provider are teaming up to provide the industry with an OEM preassembled technological integration for undergrounds.
The partnership between Metsa and One-Tank has developed over the past several years – as friends and business partners. Now the companies are preparing to launch their integrated solution for underground tanks in early 2025.
They say the product will benefit propane marketers serving the residential sector where undergrounds are popular but believe it will also draw attention from other segments of the industry.
“We’ve always been trying to figure out ways to work together or help each other,” says Brian Humphrey, CEO of One-Tank, speaking alongside Metsa CEO Robert Kenney at this year’s LP Gas Growth Summit. “He told us about his underground tank shroud, and at the same time, we’re doing development on our product. It happened naturally.”
Metsa has featured its underground dome at industry events this year, while One-Tank launched its Pulse satellite tank monitor.
Kenney describes the Metsa dome as a spacious and workable product with the ability to comfortably accommodate technological solutions without worry of blockage or interference. One-Tank touts the dependability of its satellite monitor, ensuring that buried assets can be monitored for years without worry about obsolescence.
“We designed a few different mounting options, and one of them was tailored for Metsa’s underground tank solution,” Humphrey says. “You can mount it into the ground, whether it’s on the side of the UG tank shroud or under the lid. It’s very simple, very clean and very easy; it’s out of sight, out of mind.”
Metsa has focused on driving growth for small- and medium-sized independent propane companies, which Kenney calls “the lifeblood of the industry.” He says integrations like this only help to drive that growth.
“We are trying to improve the market,” he says. “With [One-Tank], we know we’re going to accomplish that. We are excited to collaborate; we are excited to bring seamless integration for undergrounds to the market, and we know we’re going to do a great job.”
Humphrey adds, “We like working with Metsa, and we’re going to continue working with Metsa for the quality of their tank and the service. In this industry, quality of product, customer service and doing business with people you want to do business with, and having those relationships, is everything. We’re going to continue innovating and creating cool stuff together, and that’s where we see the future.”
