Business practices are changing rapidly. The best practices for growing your business are completely different from what they were 20 years ago.

For instance, Apple released the first iPhone in 2007. With this launch, communication, entertainment and jobs changed with it. The way you would contact your customers in 1990 is not how you would contact your customers today.

Another example of a major digital change that people had to adapt to is electronic mail (better known as email). Email was developed in the 1960s, and although it has been around for decades, there may be uses for it that you’re not aware of.

New applications such as TikTok, Threads and Bluesky are popping up rapidly. Sometimes, if you don’t get ahead of a new development, you may find yourself falling behind.

In this column, which we’re reviving at LP Gas magazine, I will cover a range of topics within the digital realm, including:

You might not feel qualified to share online at first, but marketing your business is a skill anyone can learn.

▶ Everyone is in marketing

No matter what your role is at your company, everyone is responsible for marketing the business. Marketing starts with great customer service and continues through every part of the process. Once the job is done, it doesn’t stop there, either. Online reviews last indefinitely and shape your company’s digital reputation.

Communicating digitally is the fastest way to connect with your customers and audience, and utilizing the tools already set in front of you is the best way to set you and your company up for success.

▶ Staying ahead

When you are proactive about learning and implementing digital strategies, you are best equipped to meet customers where they are, foster lasting relationships and ensure the success of your business.

Taking up digital space now will help secure your business’s relevance and competitiveness for years to come. Creating a space for your company online and developing a digital footprint has the opportunity to open new doors within your company.

If you are struggling with any digital practice in particular, whether it’s how to best use a social media platform, tracking website analytics or anything in between, reach out to me, and I will do my best to address the topic.
