Meet propane customers on Google

June 23, 2022 By

When we want to learn something new, it’s easy to get an instant response with technology – more specifically with Google. Anything you type in the search bar will deliver millions of results in a matter of seconds.

Why does this matter for your business? It will help you reach more customers online, according to Dave Meyer, a certified Google trainer and president of BizzyWeb.

Meyer shared his insights earlier this year during the Propane Education & Research Council’s Energy for Everyone Marketing Conference in Minneapolis. Past, current and future customers will be looking for your business online. It’s important to learn how your business is found online and work to promote it using search engine optimization (SEO).

Your goal with Google: Be as useful as possible in the most accessible way.

Google search results

SEO is the process of making your website better for search engines like Google.

Google pulls keywords from your website to connect customers to your business. Update your website with clear content and concise messaging about what your business offers, Meyer says. Publish original and accurate content, use clear page titles and descriptions and keep your content organized.

Google Trends is a useful tool that can help you research keywords for your company website. You can see what words and phrases are popular or monitor your business’s popularity. Find popular search terms at: g.co/trends.

Create a Google Business Profile

A business profile can help you stand out on Google. Be sure to optimize this free tool – many go unclaimed, says Meyer.

The business profile can help manage your company information on the search and maps features. The profile can include your business contact information, hours, location photos, a website and reviews. Start managing your business profile for free here: google.com/business.

Use Google Advertising

Once you update your website and free business profile, consider online advertising. With Google Ads, you can track success and only pay when customers take action to get to your website. Meyer shared these steps for an online ad campaign:

  • Decide your goal. What action should people take?
  • Connect to your Google Business Profile or enter business information.
  • Identify or create a relevant webpage/website to connect to your ad.
  • Write a compelling ad/description.
  • Choose keyword themes and locations where the ad can appear.
  • Set a daily budget.
